The first round of afternoon activites happened today. The students were able to sign up for their choices and then were placed in these activities for monday, tuesday or thursday. They have to do 2 activities. Rick, Joanne and I went to the trekking one today. There were a bunch of MMC and SRSS kids with us. The other students were playing volleyball, rock-climbing and basketball, I think. The rock climbers were really excited when they got back- they actually get to climb on the mountain!
Back to the trekking. We started from the school at 2:00 and walked up to the telecabine, now, when we say we walked up to something here in Leysin it really is walking UP. No more of this flat land for us, unfortunately! We got to the telecabine (gondola) and loaded 6 to a cabin. The ride up is a couple of minutes and is quite pricey, but all our kids now have KLAS student cards and can go on there for free. The views are absolutely spectacular and we have included some photos, unfortunately, it is tough to capture it all. I was tempted to do my Sound of Music interpretation in the field of wildflowers at the top of the hill, but better judgement prevailed. We trekked until 5:30, most of the trek was down hill, which sounds easy... until you realize how steep some parts of the hike were! We had to take a break in the middle and enjoy some dessert, fresh raspberries on a base of cake with REAL whipped cream. It was worth the walk! I think we will all be feeling our calves and thighs tomorrow! (at least it makes it easier to justify dessert!)
It is now after supper and the campus is quiet. Students are all in their rooms studying and we are all in a row working on the computers. Good times!
WOW! love the pictures and totally good to see you all! the sound of music! haha i think we all did it at least a couple times! but umm, ya totally not even jealous at all, not even a little actually totally pumped taht i get to stay here and work, at mcds none the less. yup totally pumped about that... haha but SO happy for you guys, the sweetest thing is, i know where all these pictures where taken from, wonderfull wonderfull memories! it seems like you guys are really having a wonderful time! You should ask Ms. Samson about taking you guys up this crazy mountain to the top, like when you walk down from the telecabine there is this one peek that you can see has a place for you to walk around it to the top...if this makes any sense, she was going to take a bunch of us last year and had to cancel because of the weather, it would have to be a crazy planned thing and only ppl that really wanted to go. anyways keep walking all over those mountains, ha how about you guys take a hike for me k! ha ha thanks yo!
