July 21, Tuesday
Today there was an excursion to Avenches and Merton for the European Studies students. Left at 11:15 and rode the bus and Mercedes van for 2 hours. Saw some Roman ruins and had the chance in Merton to see a medieval village relatively undisturbed. No tv antennae, no electrical wires; it pretty much looks as it did in the middle ages. Pretty little town. It's on a lake so we could choose to swim a bit. Took the Col de Mosses route back to the school, traveling many of the same roads as the Tour riders did on Sunday. Back in time for supper and study hall!!

wow saw all this not too long ago myself ;P when we went to the amphlitheatre there weren't any chairs or anyhting in the middle, they still had the need seats but not the stuff in the middle...very cool!
