Sunday, July 12.
Up at 9:30, and still TIRED! Brunch at 10. Cafeteria was full, now that the Grade 10's have arrived. 11:45 was full school assembly. All teachers and staff were introduced, lots of school rules and procedures were explained. Rules, rules, more rules... no gum, no dyed hair for the Japanese students, only 1 earring per ear, no high heels, BE ON TIME! or you get a cross, (3 crosses equal a detention on Friday evening- stare at the wall for an hour.) A room-full of teenagers, and it was silent the whole time. Awesome! Nice to see a well-run, well-organized school. Another meeting with just the 'new' students at 1:00. The exchange students and their partners, plus the exchange students from Japan got their own introduction to the school procedures and so on. Kids were free for the afternoon after that. We did a quick tour around town with Terry in her car, some more driving up incredibly steep and narrow roads. We did a short walk out to the Eagle's Nest. Had our first meeting with cows and their bells. Stereotypes are awesome. Great view of Lake Geneva and the Rhone Valley. Back in time for supper, again good food. Full salad bar, fried fish and rice, plus creamy ice cream for dessert. Yum. Students had dorm meetings in the evening, finding out about dorm life. We met two of the brand new staff here and visited for the evening. Oh! we've been spending most of our time with the supervisor from Miles Mac, Joanne Zahaiko. Miles Mac sent 8 students as well, making a total of 16 in our contingent. Our apartments are right across from each other. Don't worry, the neighbors have been getting along famously.
Thanks for all the details ....you answered a lot of the questions I had asked about! teens aren't much for details! haha
